There are 7 main categories that college coaches evaluate a potential recruit on.  All coaches will place different weight on each category but this is a good start to see where you can improve, are already doing or need to change your recruiting strategy.

1. Athletic Success.  Past results are indicative of your ability and talent to compete at the college level.
2. Potential. Coaches want players that will continue to get better, can improve with college coaching and have the ability to be the athlete they want in the years to come.
3. Versatility. Coaches want more bang for their recruiting dollar. An athlete who could play multiple positions and fit into different schemes is more attractive then someone who can only play offense or defense.
4. Leadership.  Team leaders are important to a programs overall success. They cause less problems, work harder and coaches would love to have a team made up of former high school captains.
5. Diversity. Playing and having success in more that one sport shows raw athletic talent. It is a great marker of future potential and being able to handle the stresses of college athletics.
6. Work Ethic/Dedication. Do you finish out each play? Run out every ground ball? Playing in college demands your best both on and off the field.
7. Academics.  Coaches do not want to have to deal with an athlete having academic problems in college. Playing college sports means you must be able to balance your academics without them interfering with the athletic program.
